Former Formula 1 racer Scott Speed has completed his first IndyCar test at Chicagoland Speedway ahead of his debut in the championship at this month’s Indianapolis 500. The Dragon Racing driver was joined on-track by Renault reserve driver Ho-Pin Tung and Wade Cunningham.

“It was very cool to get back into the groove of a high-downforce car that has more buttons on the steering wheel than one," said Speed, referring to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. “There is nothing like running around at over a 210 mile per hour average.

“I'm super-excited to go to Indy. The more I'm getting into this now that I've done some laps, I'm starting to realize what a steep learning curve is ahead of me and that's what is exciting. We were smooth, the guys were great and all went well."
