Raikkonen will make his NASCAR debut Friday, May 20th

Kimi Raikkonen will make his NASCAR debut Friday, May 20 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, marking the first time in its 52-year history that a former Formula 1 champion has competed in a NASCAR-sanctioned event at the track.

What's that you say? Mario Andretti ran a NASCAR stock car at Charlotte? While that's true, it was 11 years before he won the F1 title in 1978.

Jimmy Clark and Jacques Villeneuve also raced in NASCAR events, however, neither competed in a race at Charlotte.

Raikkonen, 31, won the F1 title in 2007 while driving for Ferrari. Since leaving the team and the series following the 2009 season, Raikkonen has been competing in the World Rally Championship.

Early this year he signed up to drive three to five Truck Series races for Kyle Busch Motorsports and he was adamant about making his debut at Charlotte. CBS Sports
