NASCAR schedules Phoenix open test for October

NASCAR has scheduled an open test Oct. 4-5 at Phoenix International Raceway to allow Sprint Cup Series teams to get a feel for the new surface and configuration of the track.

The test will also serve as a confirmation test for the tire Goodyear will provide for the season’s 35th Cup race.

The 1-mile oval is being repaved and Turn 2 slightly kicked out (altered) in an effort to promote more side-by-side racing.
