Superleague Formula unveils first four drivers for 2011

Craig Dolby

Superleague Formula today announced the first drivers who have signed in the 2011 Superleague Formula World Cup season. The championship gets underway at Assen in the Netherlands on June 4/5 and British driver Craig Dolby, who has finished as championship runner up in the past two seasons is amongst the first names to be announced.

“I certainly have unfinished business in Superleague Formula coming so close to the title in the last two seasons." said Dolby, “I have one goal for 2011, and that’s to be on the top step of the podium at the end of the season."

“One of the big decisions of the winter was to stay with Alan (Alan Docking Racing), we had some good offers but the team is more like a big family and it seemed the only place we could be. There is a real hunger throughout the team to win the championship, more than ever before, but is just seems that everyone is excited and positive and at the same time having fun, it’s a great environment to work in."

John Martin is another to return for 2011 and like his team-mate Dolby, he is also bullish about his prospects this year. “I can't wait to get back in the car and hear the roar of the V12." said the likeable Australian, “I ended last season on a high with victory in race one and the Super Final at Navarra and I have been training hard over the off season to build upon the form that saw me win six races, claim 10 podiums, take two poles and qualify on the front row six times in 2010."

"There is no doubt if I’d started the season how I finished it. I would have been a championship contender. This year's calendar is pretty exciting with the visits to Russia, China, Brazil and the Middle East. Most of all though I'm really looking forward to racing so close to home in New Zealand at the end of the season. Aussies and Kiwis have always enjoyed a close relationship and I know a lot of my friends and supporters in Australia are making the trip across the Tasman to support me. Hopefully I can make it a weekend to remember for us all by winning the championship."

Another former race winner German driver Max Wissel, who finished the 2009 season in third spot in the championship, is also returning for 2011.

New to Superleague Formula is Filip Salaquarda, the highly rated Czech driver joins the Atech Reid GP squad after a successful winter test.
