Forklift almost squashes Button like a bug
Jenson Button reported that he was almost hit by a reversing forklift truck in the Monaco paddock on Wednesday, with teams up and down the pit lane involved in a rush to get their respective motorhomes constructed in time. Despite almost being squashed like a bug, the 2009 Champion admitted that he would not have been ‘seriously injured’.
"I was walking along talking to the guys. I was looking but he wasn't as he was reversing," Button is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
"I was never going to be injured seriously. He wasn't going to kill me. He would have bumped into me. They are doing all they can but when it is back to back it is very difficult. The guys are working non-stop to get it built. It makes it a bit difficult and dangerous – maybe we should be wearing hard hats in the paddock."
As Monaco follows on from Barcelona as a back-to-back race, teams have had just three days to transfer their equipment from the Circuit de Catalunya to the streets of Monte-Carlo.
