Indy Fans can win Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Pace Car
Any fan who reorders or applies online for tickets to the 96th Indianapolis 500 at www.imstix.com between midnight (ET) Tuesday, May 30 and 11:59 p.m. Monday, June 13 will be registered to win a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible Pace Car Replica. The 2012 Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The grand prize Camaro SS Convertible Pace Car is a mirror image of the car in which four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt paced the historic 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 to the green flag, with IMS Chairman of the Board Mari Hulman George as his passenger.
One of the stars of the Indianapolis 500 will present the keys to the winner at IMS.
Dan Wheldon earned a thrilling Indianapolis 500 victory – his second – when his No. 98 William Rast-CURB/Big Machine car for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian passed JR Hildebrand's No. 4 National Guard Panther Racing car on the final straightaway of the race after Hildebrand drifted high to avoid traffic in Turn 4 and hit the SAFER Barrier.
The color combination of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible Pace Car is similar to the design used on 1969 Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replicas – cars which have become among the most popular Camaros in the collector world.
The Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible is fitted with the 2SS equipment package and RS package, including a 400-horsepower V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The retail value of the car is approximately $53,432.
Another bonus for fans who reorder or apply online for 2012 Indianapolis 500 tickets will be a pair of tickets for practice days at either the 2011 Brickyard 400 or Red Bull Indianapolis GP at IMS. Brickyard 400 practice day is Friday, July 29, while Red Bull Indianapolis GP practice day is Friday, Aug. 26. Children 12 and under are free on both of those days, creating a budget-friendly day at the track for families.
The 2012 Indianapolis 500 will feature competition among engine manufacturers for the first time since 2005, as Chevrolet and Lotus are joining Honda as engine suppliers in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season. An all-new chassis also will race at Indianapolis for the first time since 2003, as the new Dallara Safety Cell clad in aero kits built by various manufacturers is scheduled to be on track at the 2012 edition of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
