Jordan King adds F2 program
The 17-year-old from Harbury in Leamington Spa will take part in the next three rounds of the series as well as join the F2 regulars for official testing at the new Snetterton 300 circuit next week (7 June).
Jordan will race in F2 whilst continuing his current Formula Renault UK campaign, commencing at Spa on 24-26 June followed by rounds at the Nürburgring and Brands Hatch.
The BRDC Rising Star first sampled the original spec F2 car during a previous one-off winter test but he will not fully experience the current, more powerful (500bhp) JPH1B car until the test session next week.
Jordan made an outstanding car racing debut at the end of 2010 in Formula Palmer Audi at Silverstone, securing a maiden pole and podium finish. Before that he enjoyed a very successful karting career, beginning at the age of 11, being a front runner in KF3 and KF2.
Commenting on the decision Jordan said: "I'm really looking forward to racing in the F2 series and learning as much as possible about the car and also the international tracks which I have never competed on before. The idea to race in F2 came about towards the end of 2010 when I did the final rounds of FPA and got talking to the F2 team and it seemed a really good opportunity for me.
"I'm still only 17 so I know it's going to be difficult, especially going from one formula to another, but I'm keen to experience as much as possible to help progress my career."
Formula Two Series Director Jonathan Palmer added: "Despite his age, Jordan has already achieved a great deal of success, quickly rising through the ranks in karting and now beginning what will undoubtedly be a successful single-seater career. I watched Jordan's first F2 test at Valencia and he was really impressive; form that was backed up by his fantastic FPA debut event. Jordan is very quick and cool with it, and I suspect the level – and big – playing field of F2 will enable him to prove just what a talent he is with some top 10 results."
