Gossage sells tickets anyway he can

Eddie Gossage may think very highly of himself, but he certainly knows how to sell race tickets

Eddie Gossage could write the script, Danica Patrick would show up at Texas Motor Speedway next Saturday night wearing one of her sexy white bikinis.

And if she wants to bring a few GoDaddy girls along for the ride, hey, that would be fine, too.

Gossage's job is to put butts in 212,000 seats.

For NASCAR, that's never a problem.

Put on a NASCAR race and RVs start showing up at the track in the middle of the week with license plates from every part of the Confederacy.

But although Indy cars are much faster, they are a much tougher sell.

You need some kind of gimmick to lure them in.

And who better to come up with a good gimmick than Gossage — the P.T. Barnum of auto racing?

"No Limits" Gossage has come up with something new for the Izod IndyCar Series race coming to TMS on June 11.

Or maybe I should say "races."

The Firestone 550 has been changed to the Firestone Twin 275s.

And whom do you think Gossage has chosen as the grand marshal for this Twin event?

No, not Dolly Parton, although that would have been a good choice.

Gossage has picked twins Dan and Don Evans to give the call, 'Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines."

The Evans brothers are Oklahoma City policemen who were recent contestants on the popular TV show, "The Biggest Loser."

Once the engines start, fans will get two races for the price of one.

Each race will be 275 kilometers (171 miles). That is 114 laps around the 1.5-mile track.

Drivers will earn their starting spots for the first race in Friday qualifying.

What makes this so unusual is that the starting lineup for the second race will be a blind draw. More at The Times record
