06/11/11 After 7.5 hours, the number 1 Audi with the winners of last year, Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas crashed heavily.

On the straight between Mulsanne and Indianapolis Rockefeller came together with the No. 71AF Corse Ferrari, at that time driven by Rob Kauffman. The Ferrari driver, who was on the left side of the track, went off his line and then hit the Audi, which then shot into the left guardrail and ended up some 200 meters further on the right hand side. Because of the gigantic impact the car disintegrated in many pieces.

According to information from Radio Le Mans reporter Paul Thruswell, who spoke to Audi Motorsport Dr.Wolfgang Ullrich, Rockefeller got himself out of the car.
