First pictures of Kubica since his Rally crash

Polish website FAKT.pl have published the first pictures of Renault F1 driver Robert Kubica, since his horror rally crash, walking with a crutch and his strapped up arm showing a massive scar just below the inner elbow area.

Kubica was gravely injured during an amateur rally in Italy in May and was hospitalized until last month as he recovered from injuries which were, at the time, believed to be life threatening.

As a result Kubica was unable to take up his place on the 2011 grid and Nick Heidfeld was instead recruited to fill in for the Pole, but the German’s tenure with the team has been a disappointment. The general consensus is that the Renault team sorely miss Kubica’s leadership and outright speed.

However his manager Daniel Morelli delivered positive news to Gazzetta dello Sport: “Recovery is progressing positively. The right leg is fine. If that was the problem, then Robert would practically be ready. No, that is not our worry."

“The Italian GP is held in September, so it’s in just three months time, but we can think about the final race of the season [Brazil]. In any case, when Robert gets in the simulator, he will immediately understand whether he is able to come back, how and when, without the need of a stop-watch," said Morelli

Renault F1 team principal Eric Boullier is on record saying: “We obviously are 100% committed to Robert, and I have offered to put in place all the rehabilitation on the racing side for him to be comfortable before making the decision."

“We are now having discussions with his management to see how we can do it. There’s not always the same concerns for everybody, but I’d like to wait on Robert’s decision to see if he is back or not. And then work out if we go to a different plan or not. I’ve been told he will be starting his full rehabilitation in August, which is late. But we have to make a decision around then," added Boullier
