SCCA Enterprises Inc., which designed and produces the Spec Race Ford and Formula Enterprises cars, on Thursday unveiled the creation of the SCCA Enterprises rookie of the year award for both ranks.
The SRF is an enclosed-wheel, open-cockpit race car powered by a 1.9-liter Ford engine. The FE car is a open-wheel car with a 2.3-liter Mazda engine. The company has supplied more than 1,000 cars over the past 20 years, and its SRF and FE classes have launched the careers of numerous racers, according to SCCA Enterprises.
With that in mind, the company will present its new rookie of the year award to one driver in each class starting in 2011.
"We feel it is time to honor the top new racer in our esteemed ranks," said Erik Skirmants, president and CEO of SCCA Enterprises. "I look forward to presenting the award to a talented racer, both in and out of the driver's seat."
The Colorado-based company will take into account on-track results and success, off-track character and the racer's ability to be an ambassador for SCCA Enterprises. Racers in the SCCA National, Regional or Pro competitions are eligible. The company will get input from SRF and FE customer-service representatives, the media and racers.
The rookie of the year award will be presented at the end of the 2011 season.
