INDYCAR Partners with GreenFuel Technologies

Furthering its leadership in eco-friendly racing, INDYCAR has formed a partnership with GreenFuel Technologies, LLC, an alternative energy company focused on developing unique and innovative energy solutions utilizing environmentally sound methods.

INDYCAR, the governing body of the IZOD IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy Lights and Mazda Road to Indy, and GreenFuel will operate a program designed to reduce energy consumption at each IZOD IndyCar Series event and help define the series’ green initiatives into the future.

“Switching to 100 percent fuel grade ethanol in 2006 was the first step in INDYCAR’s commitment to leadership in eco-friendly racing," said Terry Angstadt, president of INDYCAR’s commercial division. “Our partnership with GreenFuel gives us the chance to strengthen that commitment as well as strongly encourage our teams and corporate partners to join the cause. Through our green efforts we hope to inspire fans to make smart choices in their purchases and practices and to consider how their actions impact our planet’s energy resources."

The partnership’s Race to Energy Independence program (R2EI), which will be introduced in phases, is based on educating INDYCAR’s network of fans, sponsors and racing teams on responsible, innovative, clean technologies.

Phase one will include a mobile educational facility and technology center where GreenFuel will host interactive kiosks capable of mapping a person’s environmental profile and offer energy efficient alternatives. GreenFuel will have the center at IZOD IndyCar Series events in Sonoma and Las Vegas, later this year.

“GreenFuel wants to introduce fans to technologies that reduce energy costs while minimizing their environmental impact on the planet," said John Casey, CEO of GreenFuel. "We are committed to building a better environment for ourselves and future generations. We believe the path to an ecological and economical balance lies in informed choices about renewable energy solutions."
