Tracy wants to race fulltime in 2012 and then retire

Paul Tracy

IZOD IndyCar Series driver and 2003 Champ Car World Series champion Paul Tracy says that 2012 will be his last season racing in IndyCar–if he secures a full-season ride next year.

Tracy is a part-time IndyCar competitor again this season. He has not contested anything close to a full-schedule since he ran 12 of 14 races during Champ Car's final season, in 2007.

"If I can put together a full-season deal, next year will probably be my last," Tracy told AutoWeek. "If I only run Indy and a couple of other races, I'll decide what I'm doing after that.

"I could do Indy as [a one-off] for a long time. I could be Davey Hamilton."

Tracy turns 43 in December. Hamilton competed in this year's Indianapolis 500 a few weeks before his 49th birthday.
