Lewis Hamilton fined
McLaren were handed a fine of 1,200 euros (£1,500) on Friday at the Nürburgring due to pit lane speeding in practice. The driver in question was Lewis Hamilton, who was adjusted to have broken the speed limit which applies to all cars for safety reasons.
A number of drivers could be seen locking up their tires, frantically attempting to slow down at the latest possible moment before the pit lane entry line. Hamilton’s fine, issued by F1 governing body the FIA, was given after the two 90-minute sessions.
There was also an investigation involving Sauber's Sergio Pérez, who left the pit lane for second practice before the green light had illuminated. Stewards – including multiple Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen – eventually made the decision to take no further action.
