We need to improve, insists Webber

Mark Webber says "we need to improve"

Mark Webber says Red Bull must improve if it is to fight at the front for the remainder of the season, admitting that his team ‘weren’t quick enough’ at the Nürburgring on Sunday. The Australian recovered from a poor start to regain the lead on Lap 17, but later slipped behind Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton at the final pit-stop phase.

"We weren’t quick enough today," Webber explained after the 60-lap race. "I did everything I could, I was happy with how I drive but these guys just had that little extra margin when they needed to do it.

"Especially at the back part of the stints, they had a bit more range, so that made us a little bit exposed on strategy. We know what we’ve got to improve on, but I couldn’t have got much more than what I did today.

"I’m disappointed of course not to get the win, all three of us had a smooth day really and a good fight around the stops.

"So I have mixed emotions, it’s another good result and you need to perform at a high level to get these, but we’ll keep learning. The progress has been decent, but we need to improve."
