Brickyard 400 building momentum?
An Indianapolis Motor Speedway official said Sunday that efforts to build the Brickyard 400 from within are off to a good start.
Attendance for Saturday's activities, including the Hinder concert, was an improvement from previous years.
"(The crowd was) lively, the band was good and we established something that will grow," said Mark Dill, vice president of marketing and public relations.
Future growth is tied to the inclusion of the Grand-Am sports car series and NASCAR's Nationwide Series next year in what's billed as the "Super Weekend."
Sunday's crowd was estimated at 130,000. It looked better on television because some grandstands — South Vista, Stand G and part of the Northeast and North Vistas — were closed. Ticket holders in those sections were relocated. Indy Star
