More quotes from Boris Said: "I went over there to go talk to him. He wouldn't even let me get out of the car. He comes over and throws a few little baby punches and then when I get out, he runs away and hides behind some big guys. But, he won't hide from me long. I'll find him. I won't settle it out on the track. It's not right to wreck cars, but, he'll show up at a race with a black eye one of these days. I'll see him somewhere."
Added Boris’ crew chief, Nick Harrison: "Boris has had a problem, actually I think (Greg) Biffle has had a problem with Boris from a previous race so leading into this race, they already had some aggression toward each other. Early in the race, Biffle had run out of gas and was multiple laps down and was racing Boris. Boris thought that was dirty, so Boris relayed a message to the spotter he wanted to meet him after the race.’’
There were no quotes from Biffle after the race, but he noted on Twitter he would post some comments there when he got home. Stay tuned. This isn’t over.
GREG BIFFLE RESPONDS VIA TWITTER
Greg Biffle issued four tweets via Twitter in response to Boris Said's comments and actions. Here's what Biffle wrote:
"1st of all I want to make sure everyone sees the wreck between David (Ragan) and David (Reutimann), now that's coming from a guy (Boris Said) that says I am unprofessional.
"Let me tell u something Boris, "the road course ringer'' caused that wreck. He did the same thing to me earlier in the race off the carousel.
"The same place Same (Hornish) got off & caused the horrific wreck with (Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton in 2009). Thank God, they paved that run off.
"Then Mr. Class pulls in behind my truck after the race today?! Shouldn't you go check on David & David? How unprofessional & disrespectful!''
Boris Said was interviewed on Sirius Satellite Radio after the race. Here's what he had to say about Biffle:
Boris Said: “The big thing I was surprised at is how unprofessional and how angry Greg Biffle was at me. He was two laps down and he caught me and I let him go and then later in the race when I was on the lead lap and he was a lap down he was just flipping me off for half a lap and he was trying to wreck me and he cost me about 300 yards of room. I don’t know what was wrong with him but, you know, after the race I was gonna go over there and womp him and he was too chicken. Wouldn’t let me get out of the car before he came over and then he went and hid behind some big guys. Someday I’ll find him and I’ll teach him a lesson. I have no respect for him anymore though. … I told the crew, I said, ‘If there’s anything I can do to have him show up at the next race with a black eye I’m gonna make sure it happens.’ But he’s too chicken for that."
Host, Rick Benjamin: “There were some reports, some indications that you and the Biff have some history going back a ways. I couldn’t recall anything. Does this go back several races for the two of you?"
Boris Said: “He said it was from last year at Watkins Glen. He goes, ‘That’s for last year.’ And, I mean, last year I went down into turn one three wide and passed him and he got mad at me because he says I’m not a regular and I shouldn’t be racing the regulars that hard. But I was racing the Red Bull car and they’re there week in and week out and they’re a top 35 team and they pay me to drive at 100 percent, not to roll over for some regular. I’m not doing my job if I don’t try 100 percent. So he was still sore about that I guess. And I guess he had a lot of time to think about it because he was two laps down."
Host, Claire B. Lang: “Do you think sometimes guys like you don’t get the respect, or do you feel like the regulars expect you to give them more because you’re not around all the time? Do you think they expect that and maybe that leads to this? Or is it the aggression we talked about we’d see at this track?"
Boris Said: “That’s the aggression you see. I mean, you earn respect. Jamie McMurray didn’t mean to get into me. I think Bobby Labonte broke a little early and I got caught off guard and it was just kind of a ripple effect. And he just got into me right when I was turning and spun me around. But, you know, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was behind me and he’s trying to make the Chase so I gave him some room and let him go. I give guys respect when they deserve respect and as far as Greg Biffle’s concerned, I’m not going to be happy until I womp him. And I am going to womp him sometime when he least expects it. I mean, he’s going to fight me like a man someday. Not at the track, not where we get fined, but someday. Somebody texts me his address I’ll show up at his house Wednesday because I’ll be in Charlotte. I am thoroughly disappointed in that kid. I mean, and he’s supposed to be a champion. That’s a joke."
WILD WRECK
Boris Said didn’t earn himself any friends with his actions on the last lap that led to David Ragan wrecking and then collecting David Reutimann, whose car hit the guardrail and flipped.
Said Ragan of Said: “He just hooked us. He certainly could have given a little more of a break and we all could have gotten through there and not torn up anything. But he was aggressive and we were all aggressive.’’
Boris responded by stating: “The No. 6 car (David Ragan) was getting into me a lot. I didn't want to wreck him, but I had to stay on the track and he didn't give me any room. We both collided. That is the only thing I feel bad about.
No surprise that both Ragan and Reutimann called for more SAFER barriers at the track. They’re right. And so is Jeff Burton, who wrote on Twitter: “We need 2 look at the wall angles and make some changes. All tracks have spent a fortune on soft walls. We need to keep working.’’
He’s right also. If you watch the video of the crash, notice that both Ragan and Reutimann hit walls that are at an angle. Think back to Jeff Gordon’s crash at Richmond earlier this year on the backstretch. He also hit a wall that was at an angle to the track. Just as he did at Las Vegas a few years ago. Las Vegas added a SAFER barrier in that section and Richmond is doing the same thing. Would think same might happen to Watkins Glen before next year’s race. HamptonRoads.com
08/16/11 Roush Fenway Racing driver Greg Biffle and road-course ace Boris Said had a confrontation in the Sprint Cup garage after the race at Watkins Glen.
Said was angry with the way Biffle raced him when Biffle was not on the lead lap. After the race, TV cameras showed the Roush Fenway team of Biffle and the Phoenix Racing team of Said engaged in some pushing and shoving as they tried to separate the two drivers.
“He’s the most unprofessional little scaredy cat I’ve ever seen in my life," Said said. “He wouldn’t even fight me like a man after, so if somebody texts me his address, I’ll go see him Wednesday at his house and show him what he really needs. He needs a freakin’ whooping, and I’m going to give it to him.
“He was flipping me off, giving me the finger, totally unprofessional, a few laps down. He’s a chump."
Said also was involved in a last-lap accident in which he made contact with David Ragan, whose car slammed into the guard rail, bounced back across the track and hit David Reutimann, whose car wound up flipping and rolling across the track.
Said indicated that he had nowhere to go to remain on the track without hitting Ragan.
But his beef with Biffle had nothing to do with the contact with Ragan, Biffle’s teammate, but rather how they raced each other and Biffle’s actions after the race.
