Honda increases NASA support
A national championship will now pay $2,500 for registered members of the Honda Racing Line in any of the five Honda Challenge classes (H1 through H5). Cash awards also will be presented to all starters, in the same categories, with additional cash prizes to all podium [first, second and third-place] finishers in classes with more than 10 starters. To be eligible, Honda Racing Line members must display the required Honda or Acura decals on their cars.
“The NASA National Championship is an outstanding example of grassroots motorsports, and exactly the sort of program the Honda Racing Line was designed to support," said Marc Sours, general manager of HPD. “We are pleased to continue and expand our contingency program for 2011, and look forward to the event’s return to Mid-Ohio." Administered by NASA on behalf of American Honda and HPD, these awards will be distributed following the completion of each National Championship race. They include:
- $500 for starting a National Championship event;
- $1,000 for a third-place finish in an event with 10 or more starters;
- $1,500 for a second-place finish in an event with 10 or more starters; and
- $2,500 for a first-place finish in an event with 10 or more starters.
Registration for the Honda Racing Line will be offered on-site at Mid-Ohio. In addition, American Honda will again provide catered trackside hospitality exclusively for Honda/Acura competitors and their crew members. The tent will provide a buffet lunch from Thursday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, Sept. 10.
