Video: Mario Andretti unplugged – Part 1
Racing Legend Mario Andretti talks about developing a new chassis year after year when he was racing, including his best and worst throughout the years. From the beginning IndyCar had new cars every year – innovation was at the forefront. Then Tony George came along, created the IRL, split the sport in two and destroyed the sponsorship that was in the series. Then there was no longer enough money to have new designed cars every year and it became a 'spec' sport. The Great Depression could not do it. World War 1 could not do it. World War II could not do it. But one man, Tony George, managed to bring the sport of Indy Car Racing to the lowest of lows. Only now, with him kicked out of the sport by his own family, will the sport try to recover from being a 'spec' series (spec series should only be at the lower rungs of the sport) to something more.
