The British Formula One team McLaren is planning to invest millions of pounds to build two new factories in the UK over the next three to five years. McLaren intends to build facilities to house its growing division McLaren Applied Technologies, which uses Formula One technology to develop products outside the motorsport, such as bicycles.

The company is already moving into supercar production with the MP4-12C and will officially open a new plant to build the cars later this year.

Ron Dennis, the executive chairman of McLaren Group, said: "We intend to build two more factories over the course of the next three to five years. We will grow our technology and we will grow our brand.

"That is our clear cut goal. We are on a journey."

Mr. Dennis said the plants will "house greater levels of resource" for Applied Technologies and McLaren "recognized its the division's potential".
