Dale Earnhardt Jr. says racing at Talladega has become ‘silly’

Count Dale Earnhardt Jr. among those drivers who would prefer to see the two-car tandem style of racing at Daytona and Talladega disappear forever.

Despite that, you would still think that Junior would be a big fan of racing at Talladega Superspeedway, a track he dominated early in his Cup career.

Five of Junior's 18 career wins have come at Talladega, a track that surely has more members of Junior Nation per square foot of grandstand than any other.

Considering how many Junior fans will be at Talladega in two weeks, you'd think he'd say something positive about the place. And you would be wrong.

Junior was asked Sunday after his 14th-place finish at Kansas about his chances in the Chase. He said that he just wants to win a race.

"It's a goal of mine right now to just go out there and win," Earnhardt said. "Man, if we could do that, that would really, no matter what happened in the Chase, I think we'd be real happy with our season."

So he was asked which track he thinks he might get that win at.

"I'd love to win at Homestead, the last race of the season. That's a good way to go out. But I don't really know," he said. "You can't say Talladega anymore because you don't even race at Talladega anymore; you just kind of run around together and it's just really silly. So I don't know. I don't go to Talladega with any kind of idea of what the (heck) is going to happen. I've got as good a chance of anybody of finishing last as I do first in that race." AL.com
