Maldonado and Alguersuari given post-race penalties

Pastor Maldonado and Jaime Alguersuari have both been hit with time penalties following Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After sharing their points of view with FIA race stewards including former driver Derek Warwick, the Venezuelan and Spaniard were punished for ignoring blue flags.

Like Bruno Senna, Maldonado had already taken a drive-through penalty for obstructing quicker cars during the race, but he was soon investigated again for holding up the dicing Felipe Massa and Mark Webber. Alguersuari’s investigation was not revealed until after the race, although both men suffered similar fates.

Maldonado was given a stop-go penalty on the second occasion, but this translated to 30 seconds as the race was already over. In the case of Alguersuari, a post-race drive-through penalty equated to an addition of 20 seconds to his finishing time.

The penalties have not affected the race positions of either driver, with the pair having ended the evening one lap down in 14th and 15th spots.
