Joy Fair, stock car racing legend, dies
Joy Fair, a Michigan native and legendary stock car driver who won numerous championships at Midwest tracks, has died, Dave DeHem, president of the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club, said Saturday. Fair was 81.
Fair, who began his racing career in 1949, competed at many tracks, including Mount Clemens and Flat Rock. He drove in several different series, including ones sanctioned by NASCAR, USAC, ASA and ARCA.
"Joy was a legend not only in Michigan but also in the entire Midwest as the driver of the school bus-yellow No. 1 car," DeHem said.
Arrangements were unknown early Saturday afternoon.
