American Joey Hand joins BMW’s DTM squad for 2012 season
Joey Hand |
American Joey Hand will drive for BMW in DTM next season. Five of the six places available for the Bavarian brand in DTM are now occupied. Earlier, German Martin Tomczyk, Canadian Bruno Spengler, Brazilian Augusto Farfus and Briton Andy Priaulx confirmed. 32-year-old Hand is not exactly a newcomer to the ranks at BMW: Last season he won, together with Dirk Müller, the GT title in the American Le Mans Series with a BMW M3, run by BMW Rahal Letterman team. Earlier this year he triumphed with a Riley-BMW at the 24 Hours of Daytona and joined BMW GT squad in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he, Dirk Müller and Andy Priaulx finished third in the GTE-Pro class. Last week Joey Hand did the last test of the year at the Monteblanco circuit in southern Spain, his first experience with the BMW M3 DTM. Hand will be the first American to drive in the DTM series.
