New NASCAR team claims Red Bull points
A group of investors has reportedly acquired the owner points of the defunct Red Bull Racing in order to provide a Sprint Cup ride for Landon Cassill and another driver yet to be named.
Cassill’s Toyota will carry No. 83, which was Brian Vickers’ number last year with Red Bull. The second entry will carry No. 93. Kasey Kahne drove the former team’s No. 4, winning the 2011 season’s next-to-last race in Avondale, Ariz. (Phoenix).
Travis Kvapil has been mentioned as a potential driver of the second car, as has Vickers. Kahne, of course, is now at Hendrick Motorsports.
Former Roush Fenway executive Harry McMullen will be the new team’s general manager. Doug Richert has been hired as Cassill’s crew chief. Investors include Ron Devine and Wayne Press, both of whom were previously involved with TRG Motorsports.
