Foreign drivers increase under Anton George’s reign
Recall the lie that Tony George and the IRL told all of us – that one reason he needed to created the IRL in 1996 and destroy the sport CART built was because the sport needed more American drivers and CART was not giving enough American drivers a chance.
AR1.com calls a spade and spade and points out the number of foreign drivers in the Indy 500 has steadily increased over the past 15 years under the IRL and now IndyCar. Here is a look at the trend:
Year |
Americans | Foreigners | Country with most entrants |
1998 | 26 | 7 | Brazil (2) |
1999 | 24 | 9 | Brazil (2) |
2000 | 27 | 6 | Brazil (2) |
2001 | 23 | 10 | Brazil (5) |
2002 | 18 | 15 | Brazil (7) |
2003 | 20 | 13 | Brazil (6) |
2004 | 18 | 15 | Brazil (5) |
2005 | 15 | 18 | Brazil (5) |
2006 | 19 | 14 | Brazil (6) |
2007 | 20 | 13 | Brazil (4) |
2008 | 13 | 20 | Brazil (7) |
2009 | 11 | 22 | Brazil and U.K. (5) |

2011 | 11 | 22 | U.K. (6) |

Don't you just hate it when you're lied to?
