Stanaway to miss rest of Renault FR 3.5 season

Richie Stanaway will miss the remainder of the Formula Renault 3.5 season as a result of his recent crash at Spa.

The Kiwi fractured two vertebrae after crashing into the back of Carlos Huertas during the second wet race of the weekend.

While there was some hope that he may be fit for the next round of the championship at the Nurburgring later this month, Stanaway confirmed on his Facebook page on Friday that he will miss the rest of the season.

"I will need three-to-six months to recover from my back injury," Stanaway posted on the social media site. "Unfortunately that means I will miss the rest of the race season.

"Disappointing obviously, but at times like these I'm just happy that with the type of injury I sustained that I will make a full recovery."

Stanaway will conduct the first month of his rehabilitation in the UK, before heading back to New Zealand.
