Milwaukee race returning on Father’s Day weekend in 2013

Perhaps the best news for race fans coming out of Saturday's Milwaukee IndyFest 225 is that there will be another.

Michael Andretti, whose management firm stepped in to save the 2012 event, announced just before the race that it will return next June.

"There were still a lot of people who were a little skeptical," Andretti said. "A lot of sponsors told us 'Let's see how you do this year' and I think we proved this was going to be a first-class, world-class event."

No official attendance figures were released, but as many as half the 45,000 grandstand seats were filled, a significant improvement from a poorly-attended 2011 event.

IndyCar left Milwaukee off its original 2012 schedule but the race was restored in February when Andretti's management firm stepped in to run it.
