AC/DC ‘Frontman’ Johnson & F1 Roberto Moreno team up

AC/DC rocker Brian Johnson will team up with former Formula 1 and IndyCar driver Roberto Moreno for a race at this weekend’s Silverstone Classic powered by the AA (20-22 July).

The duo’s entry for Sunday’s World Sports Car Masters personifies the event’s ‘Rocking and Racing’ mantle. They will share a 2-litre GRD in the 50-minute, two-driver race which starts at 3.50pm.

Johnson has been the lead singer of AC/DC, one of the world’s best-selling rock bands of all time, for more than 30 years. Brazilian Moreno raced in F1 grands prix for a variety of teams in the Eighties and Nineties – famously he was dropped by the Benetton team in 1991 to make way for then rising star Michael Schumacher…

Johnson and Moreno aren’t the only other famous rockers and racers competing at the Classic. Chris Rea and Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay are also on the grid while famous faces from the motor racing world include other ex-F1 drivers Ian Ashley and Arturo Merzario as well as Le Mans 24 Hours winners Jackie Oliver and Jan Lammers. Nigel Mansell CBE, the 1992 FIA Formula 1 World Champion, is today launching the exciting new AA World. In attendance tomorrow will be five times Le Mans winner Derek Bell MBE.

Ultimately the Classic is the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival with more than 1000 entries contesting 24 races featuring saloon, GT, single-seater and sportscars spanning the full spectrum of motor sport from the Thirties through the Eighties. A further 7,000 classic cars from more than 100 motor and car owners clubs will be on static display.

But the event is also packed with off-track entertainment including chart-topping music acts – this weekend’s line-up includes Mike & The Mechanics (tonight at 10.00pm) and Adam Ant (tomorrow, Saturday, at 10.15pm).
