Martinsville Speedway president survives plane crash

According to WDBJ7.com–a network television affiliate in Roanoke, Va.–Clay Campbell, president of NASCAR track Martinsville Speedway, was on-board a plane that crashed at Blue Ridge Regional Airport early Sunday morning.

The Web site says that seven people, including the pilot, were on the plane as it returned from a race in Ohio, only to discover a problem with its landing gear upon its descent to the runway.

"It didn't take long to figure out what the problem was," Campbell told WDBJ7. "Sparks and the scraping noise, obviously the gear wasn't where it needed to be and we started sliding and it all happened so fast you really don't have time to get scared about it."

According to reports, the plane touched down without its landing gear extended and promptly ran off the runway.

No injuries were reported.
