08/07/12 ESPN’s live telecast of the rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono (PA) Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 5, earned a 3.3 final household coverage rating (2.9 final U.S. rating), averaging 4,448,849 viewers, according to the Nielsen Company. Last year’s Pocono race, which was also rain-delayed but did not air against the Olympics, earned a 3.9 household coverage rating.
ESPN2’s live telecast of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night, Aug. 4, earned a 0.9 household coverage rating (0.8 U.S. rating), averaging 1,079,432 viewers. Last year’s race earned a 1.2 household coverage rating.
08/06/12 ESPN coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pennsylvania 500 led all non-Olympic sports telecasts over the weekend with a 2.6 overnight Nielsen rating yesterday. The race featured a rain delay from 1:00-3:00pm ET, with racing resuming from 3:00-5:15pm before rain forced the cancellation of the rest of the race.
