Petersen Automotive Museum to Salute George Follmer

International road racing legend George Follmer, 78, is the distinguished guest of honor for 2012’s Petersen Automotive Museum Annual Tribute Night, November 8th, beginning with cocktails at 6:00 PM. Celebrating Follmer’s long, diverse career in automobile racing, the evening gala will include an exhibit of some of the famous cars Follmer drove in period, and attendance by iconic fellow competitors such as Tony “A2Z" Adamowicz, Jim Hall of Chaparral fame, and past Tribute Night honorees Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones , Scooter Patrick, John Morton, Bruce Burness ,Trever Harris, Andy Granatelli, Many others are now confirming to attend sharing the dinner program’s stage with Follmer to recall experiences of drama and comedy from his decades of driving a full gamut of racing cars.

Among Follmer’s many drives were those in Lotus 23 ,Lola T 70, Porsche 935,934,956 and 917, Trans-Am Ford Mustang and AMC Javelin, NASCAR Chevrolet and Ford, as well as F5000, Indy 500, IROC, FIA Makes, and Formula 1. Follmer’s crowning championship titles were won in SCCA USRRC, Trans-Am (twice) and Can-Am. A recurrently winning racer’s racer, nicknamed “George-Am" earned the pop button slogan “Let George Do It". In his retirement he went vintage racing, often in cars he drove in anger decades earlier. Tickets for attending this “Tribute to George Follmer" are priced at $125 for Petersen Automotive Museum members, and $150 for non-members.
