Nurburgring bosses face legal action
Bosses of the Nurburgring are facing legal action for embezzlement. Walter Kafitz, former Managing Director of Nürburgring GmbH, ex board member Ingolf Duebel and two other members will go before a judge on 16 October.
According to Motorsport Total, new details on the legal proceedings have been published by the courts. All involved are accused of being unfaithful with the court in relation to ‘irregularities’ in the private financing of the track between 2007 and 2009.
As explained in a statement issued by the prosecutor, a total of €385,000 (£303,000) has been transferred from the state to the Nurburgring without contractual obligation.
The venue was looking to secure the German Grand Prix for next season, having alternated with Hockenheim for the past five years. Should the Nurburgring be unable to retain the deal, Hockenheim will step back in even though bosses would prefer not to.
