County will cash in on its parking lots during Austin F1 race

Austin County commissioners this morning unanimously approved a deal to sell parking spaces at five county-owned lots during the Formula One race in November.

Parking Systems of America will run the four-day operation and pay the county 75 percent of the parking fees it collects, charging no more than $10 a space, a price the county says is comparable to what city- and state-owned lots charge. If the 1,131 spots sell out, the county could make about $34,000.

The lots would be available to the public the evenings of Nov. 15 and 16, a Thursday and Friday, and all day Nov. 17 and 18.

The company would staff the lots and collect the fees in lots on 10th Street between Lavaca and Guadalupe streets and at Cesar Chavez Street and southbound Interstate 35, as well as in garages on 10th and San Antonio streets and 12th and Guadalupe streets.
