Fox Deportes to broadcast NASCAR Cup races in Spanish

Fox Deportes, the top Latino sports network in the U.S., will broadcast 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup races next season, including the Daytona 500, the network and NASCAR announced Monday.

The network will carry 15 Cup races as well as original NASCAR programming, daily news segments and weekly updates, NASCAR and Fox Deportes announced. Six of the Cup races will be carried live, including Feb. 24's Daytona 500. It will mark the first time the Daytona 500 has been broadcast on a Spanish-language network.

Fox Sports broadcasts the first 13 races of the NASCAR schedule each year.

In addition to the season-opening Daytona Shootout and the Daytona 500, Fox Deportes will carry live broadcast of races at Auto Club Speedway in California, Bristol, Charlotte and Talladega.

“It’s a historic milestone in the evolution of FOX Deportes, and we’re excited to be working with NASCAR to add the most popular motorsport in America to our overall programming mix for the first time," Vincent Cordero, executive vice president and general manager of FOX Deportes, said in a news release.

“The thirst for NASCAR programming, and in particular race broadcasts, is very strong and we’re constantly looking for ways to expose the sport to new fans in new places," Steve Herbst, NASCAR vice president of broadcasting and production, said in the news release. “To be able to put a deal like this together with FOX Deportes, a leader in U.S. Latino sports media, is something we believe will help satisfy the strong demand for NASCAR racing in the Hispanic community while also exposing the sport to new audiences."
