Jos Verstappen will return to racing at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R in October, competing in an invitational GT race on the streets of Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. The 40-year-old, whose Formula 1 career spanned eight seasons and included two podium finishes, hopes that it could lead to further outings in the future.

"It seems like an exciting challenge," said Verstappen. "I had to think about it, but it sounds interesting. GT racing is booming internationally, so perhaps it will provide a good perspective on the future. If I like it, maybe there will be something afterwards."

"This is something new for me, with a car I have no experience of. I'm curious."

Aside from his time in Formula 1, Verstappen has also taken part in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans event, winning the competitive LMP2 class in 2008.
