Changes made to Monza’s first corner

Following the t-bone accident at the start of last year’s Italian Grand Prix, the FIA has made changes on the approach to the first corner at Monza.

In 2011, Vitantonio Liuzzi lost control of his HRT under braking for the Rettifilo on the first lap, spinning across the infield and taking out both Nico Rosberg and Vitaly Petrov.

For this weekend, the wall on the drivers’ right has been brought closer to the edge of the track and a new marshal post has been installed 150 metres before the corner.

Other changes include a complete resurfacing of the circuit from the exit of the Ascari Chicane to the exit of the Parabolica, plus a renewal of the pit wall debris fence.
