NASCAR lays off 15% of Production staff
NASCAR yesterday laid off 15% of the 210 employees in its NASCAR Productions division, which was previously known as NASCAR Media Group. The 32 staffers were told yesterday that their positions were eliminated. The cuts were part of a strategic change, and not a move to cut costs. NASCAR is hiring in its marketing, digital, and integrated marketing and communications divisions. The sanctioning body has been planning to layoff some of its NASCAR Productions team since it reorganized and renamed NASCAR Media Group last June. As part of that change, NASCAR's Production division ceased production of college sports and other content and began focusing exclusively on NASCAR programming. Many, but not all, of the employees who were laid off worked on non-NASCAR productions. Among those being let go are NASCAR Business Development Directors Chris Stuart and Beej (Brian) Gefsky, and News Center Producer Chuck Howard. The final days of staff who are being let go vary.
