UPDATE ESPN’s live telecast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 4, earned a 2.9 final household coverage rating (2.5 U.S. rating), averaging 3,943,274 viewers, according to the Nielsen Company. Last year’s race earned a 3.4 household coverage rating, meaning this year's numbers are down 15%.
Greensboro, N.C., led the nation with an 8.7 rating, with Charlotte second at 7.2. Greenville, S.C., (6.9), Norfolk (5.8) and Birmingham (5.7) rounded out the top five.
Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas also aired on ESPN and earned a 1.2 household coverage rating (1.0 U.S. rating), averaging 1,663,629 viewers. The race was run at night for the first time; the event earned a 1.1 household coverage rating in both 2010 and 2011 while airing on Saturday afternoons.
11/05/12 Not only was attendance down significantly, ESPN earned a 2.5 overnight for its coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AAA Texas 500 yesterday, down 11% from a 2.8 for the same race last year.
