7-year-old son of NASCAR crew member dies in ATV accident

The 7-year-old son of Stewart-Haas Racing gasman Andy Rueger was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident Thursday.

According to The Charlotte Observer, Bryce Rueger was killed when the ATV he was driving flipped as he attempted to make a turn around a house at a high rate of speed in Salisbury, N.C.

Andy Rueger had been a gasman for Ryan Newman and recently had signed to join the pit crew for Furniture Row Racing's Kurt Busch starting next season as the Furniture Row team is transitioning from using SHR crewmen to its own over-the-wall crew.

An 11-year-old boy who was a passenger on the ATV was hospitalized. It is illegal for anyone under age 8 to operate an ATV in North Carolina.
