AIM Autosport Announce 2013 Rolex Driver Line Up

Emil Assentato

After the November 26th announcement of the No. 61 Ferrari 458 Italia GT GRAND-AM addition to the AIM Autosport organization, AIM Autosport is proud to announce the return of the No.69 Team FXDD 458 Italia. Through contesting two cars in the battle for the 2013 Rolex GT Sports Car Series Championship, the organization plans to create an even stronger Ferrari footprint in the prestigious series.

Reigning 2012 GT Champion and Truman Akin driver, Emil Assentato is getting ready for the Roar Before The Rolex 24, set to take place on January 4-6, 2013 in anticipation of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Assentato will be driving the returning championship winning Team FXDD Ferrari 458 Italia. The driving duties of the No.69 will be shared by long-time friend and previous guest driver of the 2012 season’s long distance races at The Glen and Daytona.

“Coming back with Aim Autosport and Ferrari is a great privilege at any time but, at this stage of my career, it is more than I could ask for. I am also very excited to have Anthony Lazzaro join our team in 2013, which will be a great asset as Aim Autosport RACING WITH FERRARI will run two cars this year. The 2012 season was the perfect season for Jeff and I." Assentato continues, “Anthony and I will do our best to try to duplicate it again. Of course, competition is getting tougher every year not to mention our other team car but, with one season under our belt with Aim Autosport and Ferrari, that will continue to give us an advantage."

“Our biggest goal is to capture the Rolex 24 this year… Hopefully, we will have the skill, the preparation, the speed and the luck to capture that Trophy in 2013!" said Assentato.

Anthony Lazzaro

Having exceptional racing experience and versatility in NASCAR, Nextel Cup, Indy Car, and sports car racing, Anthony Lazzaro joins the AIM Autosport Team FXDD RACING WITH FERRARI for the 2013 Rolex GT Sports Car Series. Born in Charleston, South Carolina and now a native of Atlanta, Georgia, Lazzaro is scheduled to make an appearance at the Roar Before The Rolex 24 prior to taking the wheel of the No.69 Ferrari at America’s premiere endurance race, The Rolex 24 At Daytona.

“I am very honored to be joining the championship winning team from 2012. Having driven with Emil in the past, I know we can win races and fight for the championship in 2013. The atmosphere in the team, although serious, is also fun." Lazzaro continues, “The advantages of running two cars will be that the development process goes much faster. Now, Jeff and Max will carry the load of the development on track which will allow Emil to get more seat time."

AIM Ferrari

Lazzaro added, “Racing a Ferrari has always been a passion of mine and I have been fortunate to spend a large part of my career behind the wheel of the beautiful red cars. Most of what I do, be it coaching or instructing, has been with Ferrari."

“As for AIM, Andrew and I have been teammates and friends since 1999. So coming back with Ian and the Bordin family is very comfortable for me. Max Papis and I, along with Andrew, all drove for Cal Wells at PPI so we have a good history together as well." said Lazzaro.

Team owner, Andrew Bordin, and team co-owners, Ian Willis and Keith Willis, are currently finalizing both driver line-ups for the Rolex 24.

AIM Autosport RACING WITH FERRARI is the only Canadian team registered in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series to have won the GT Series Championship.
