RACER announces plans to produce official IndyCar Fan Guide

The countdown to the start of a new racing season is always one of the most keenly anticipated parts of the year for racing fans and, for many years, RACER readers were able to build on that interest and get their questions about the year ahead answered in one place through our series of Official Fan Guides. For 2013, that opportunity will be renewed.

"We have reached an agreement with the IZOD IndyCar Series marketing team to once again publish the Official Fan Guide for the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series," explains RACER founder, CEO and Executive Publisher Paul Pfanner. "We produced these guides for IndyCar from 2004-'09, and many of our readers will recall that we also published Fan Guides for the CART series, beginning in 1996."

Produced by the same editorial team behind RACER magazine, the Fan Guide will be lifestyle oriented, reflecting RACER's market-leading design and editorial expertise and focusing on IndyCar's “The Future of Fast" theme. It will communicate the spirit of IndyCar as a youthful and entertaining brand, with the aim of drawing new fans into the exciting action and fascinating personalities involved in the sport, while also providing the type of technical background and insight that RACER readers expect. Printed on RACER-grade paper stock, the Fan Guide will be a standalone supplement to RACER and will ship with the Spring 2013 issue of the magazine. It will also be distributed digitally and will be customizable.

"We're thrilled that IndyCar has recognized that a Fan Guide is something the series needs and the fans deserve," said RACER Editor David Malsher. "The IndyCar environment has always encouraged drivers, team owners and all team members to be accessible and, as a result, there is no high-profile motorsport series more spectator-friendly. With the IndyCar Fan Guide, we plan to strengthen that bond between the sport's stars and its fans while, crucially, drawing in new fans and showing them the personalities involved at all levels of IndyCar racing. This is a thrilling branch of auto racing between green flag and checkered flag, but fans tend to care far more if they know who and what is involved in producing the 200mph spectacle.

“We're all IndyCar fans here at RACER, so we know what we want to see in a Fan Guide," Malsher added. "Having just enjoyed one of the most competitive seasons in IndyCar history and with exciting changes in the race and schedule format for 2013, this Guide is very timely. I'm thrilled that RACER can play an increased role in promoting the IZOD IndyCar Series."
