Video: Rick Hendrick Buys First Production 2014 C7 Corvette

Race team owner and car dealer Rick Hendrick bought the first 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, VIN 0001, at the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan. 19.

Hendrick's winning bid was $1.05 million, for a car that's estimated to have a sticker price around $60,000. The money from the sale is being donated to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, one of the nation's top schools for training designers for the auto industry.

Hendrick, Charlotte resident, purchased the 2014 C7 Corvette along with a 1969 L-88 for $1 million.

The Nascar team owner was accompanied by Jeff Gordon who high fived him after the winning bid.

Among his prior “firsts" purchased at various Barrett-Jackson auctions, Hendrick bought the first production 2010 Camaro SS for $350,000; the first 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition for $270,000; the first 2011 Camaro SS convertible for $205,000; and the first 2012 ZL1 Camaro for $250,000. “Because I’m a Chevy dealer, and because new and used we sell more than anybody else in the country, it would be a nice piece for the museum (the Hendrick Heritage Collection), it would a nice piece to take around to the stores, and to have the first one of this generation would be great."
