Rolex 24 Hour 5: Juan Pablo Montoya Proves Potent At Rolex 24 At Daytona
The car that started out front in the Rolex 24 at Daytona continued to lead after five hours. Juan Pablo Montoya in the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi BMW/Riley moved past Ryan Hunter-Reay and the Velocity Motorsports Corvette DP just prior to the five-hour mark Saturday night. Jamie McMurray in the No. 02 BMW/Riley had passed Hunter-Reay minutes earlier for first place but was called in for a 30-second penalty after the car ran over its own equipment during a pit stop.
Burt Frisselle in the No. 9 Action Express Corvette DP ran third, 13.445 seconds back of Montoya.
Magnus Racing led GT after starting from the class pole, as well. Nicolas Armindo in the No. 44 Porsche GT3 was 3.426 seconds ahead of Dion von Moltke and Alex Job Racing’s Audi R8 GRAND-AM. AJR’s No. 23 Porsche GT3 was third with Damien Faulkner a further 0.289 seconds back.
Nelson Canache led GX by 1.029 seconds in Napleton Racing’s No. 16 Porsche Cayman. Eric Foss was giving chase in BGB Motorsports’ No. 38 Porsche Cayman.
