Rolex 24 Hour 9: Chip Ganassi Racing Stays In Front At Daytona

Chip Ganassi Racing continued its run at the front of the field after nine hours of the 51stt Rolex 23 at Daytona. Pole-sitter Scott Pruett led in his No. 01 TELMEX/Target BMW/Riley by 2.192 seconds over teammate Scott Dixon in the No. 02 Target/TELMEX entry. The two Ganassi cars were the dominant cars in the opening hours with the No. 01 leading the majority of laps.
The top six Daytona Prototypes remained on the lead lap. Christian Fittipaldi ran third in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP.
Sean Edwards moved the No. 30 NGT Motorsport Porsche GT3 to the front in GT. He enjoyed a 19.5-second lead over Oliver Jarvis in Alex Job Racing’s No. 24 Audi R8 GRAND-AM as the two German marques duked it out in class. Markus Winkelhock was third for Rum Bum Racing in the No. 13 Audi.
GX continued to be the Napleton Racing Show with David Donohue setting the pace in the No. 16 Porsche Cayman. He was three laps clear of Ryan Eversley in the No. 38 Porsche.
