Rolex 24 Hour 10: Chip Ganassi Racing Still 1-2

Dario Franchitti moved to the front shortly after the fifth restart of the 51st Rolex 24 at Daytona on Sunday morning in the No. 02 Target/TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing BMW/Riley. Just before the 10-hour mark, Franchitti restarted the race second – after the No. 77 Doran Racing Ford/Dallara stopped on track with no power – but wasted little time getting around teammate Charlie Kimball for the lead.

Kimball, who started his first stint in the race lead during the caution, was two seconds behind in the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi Racing BMW/Riley. Joao Barbosa was trying to close in Action Express Racing’s No. 9 Corvette DP and sat 3.640 seconds behind Franchitti.

Richard Lietz got the No. 44 Magnus Racing Porsche GT3 back into the GT lead, which is where the car began the race. The battle in class was extremely tight with four cars within 0.944 seconds. Lietz had 0.121 seconds over Christopher Haase in the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Audi R8 GRAND-AM. Patrick Pilet, another Porsche works pilot, was another half-second behind in the No. 30 NGT Motorsport Porsche.

David Donohue kept Napleton Racing in the GX lead, where the No. 16 Porsche Cayman has been most of the race. Ryan Eversley ran second for BGB Motorsports in the No. 38 Porsche Cayman, but he was three laps down.
