Toyota backtracks on single car plans

Toyota has elected to backtrack on its plans to field just one car in the FIA World Endurance Championship this season following the announcement of the 2013 entry list.

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest confirmed the entry for the new season on Friday, with a 32 car field announced – including a brace of Toyota entries.

Less than a month ago, Toyota had said it would just run a single car during the full 2013 season with the idea being to then add a second car for the race at Spa and the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.

However, the entry list confirmed that Toyota will indeed now field two cars in the World Endurance Championship having focused on a single car for much of last season.

An unchanged driver line-up will see Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima sharing the #7 car with Stephane Sarrazin, Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi in the #8.

Further details on the Toyota program will be made public later this month.
