BAR1 Motorsports Signs Kyle Marcelli For ALMS
Team owner, Brian Alder, is quite pleased with the team's accomplishments and the progress made in the off-season.
"Since BAR1 Motorsports opened its doors in 2012 we have continually been growing and maturing, the 2012 / 2013 off-season was no different. We have made lots of progress in the off-season and have used this down time to our advantage by fine tuning our operational procedures, hiring additional highly qualified personnel, and bringing our equipment and overall image up to a much higher standard." Said Brian Alder, Team Owner.
Kyle Marcelli will return to his position in the No. 8 car. Kyle and Alder have enjoyed lots of success together and both feel the stability in their relationship will again convert to success on the track.
"Re-signing Kyle Marcelli for 2013 was really an easy decision for us to make, he was consistently fast in 2012 and showed everyone that he can take the car to the front, I know Kyle had many options for 2013 and we are glad to have him on our team. I feel our driver line-up will give us the strongest combination in the LMPC field in 2013. We feel prepared and are anxious to get the season underway." Commented Brian Alder, Team Owner
"I'm very happy to be re-signed by BAR1 Motorsports for the 2013 American Le Mans Series," said Kyle. "BAR1 proved in 2012 that they know how to put a reliable, fast race car on track which in return makes my job easier. For 2013 Brian has built a world-class team with great people. I think I speak for everyone in saying that we are very confident in the program and eager to get underway."
Since making his debut into the American Le Mans Series in 2010, Kyle has earned six pole positions, three wins, thirteen podiums and five lap records. During that time, Kyle has become quite comfortable with the Oreca FLM09 chassis and Chevrolet LS3 corvette engine used the spec-prototype category. Kyle hopes to translate his experience and success along with that of BAR1 Motorsports into winning results together in 2013.
Joining Kyle in the No. 8 car will be fellow Canadian, Chris Cumming. Cumming previously competed in the GTC division of the ALMS with JDX Racing, driving a Porsche. For the longer events, Chris and Kyle will be joined by former F1 driver Stefan Johansson.
Marcelli also spoke about his co-driver, Chris Cumming and third driver, Stefan Johansson.
"Chris showed very well in 2012 in the GTC category," added Kyle. "I'm confident he will do a great job this year in prototype. I look forward to working with him and getting him comfortable as quick as possible in the new office. Plus he's Canadian so at least we cheer for the same hockey team!"
"Stefan and I have come close to working with each other on a few programs over the years, so I'm happy to hear he is a part of this effort. Stefan definitely brings a lot of additional value to the program. I'm sure he will teach us a few tricks." Said Kyle.
