Wilson Fittipaldi Sr. Dead At 92
Wilson Fittipaldi Sr., a pioneer of Formula One and racing broadcasting and father of both Emerson Fittipaldi and Wilson Fittipaldi Jr., died Monday in Brazil. He was 92 years old.
The elder Fittipaldi was a prominent motorsports journalist in his day and is considered one of the catalysts that helped spur the growth of racing in Brazil. He was also one of the founders of the Brazilian Motor Racing Confederation.
Perhaps his greatest contribution to the racing world is his sons, Emerson and Wilson Jr. Both have had extensive careers in motorsports. Wilson Jr. has raced in and owned Formula One teams, while Emerson is a multi-time champion in CART, Formula One and the Indianapolis 500.
