Sebring Hour 6: Kristensen Leads at Halfway in Twelve Hours

No. 2 Audi leads at halfway mark

Tom Kristensen already holds the record for most overall victories in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida, with six.

He’s halfway to a seventh.

Driving the No. 2 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18 e-tron quattro, Kristensen held an 8.133-seconds lead over teammate Benoit Treluyer in the No. 1 Audi with six hours down and six to go. The Audi teammates were two laps ahead of the third-place running No. 12 Rebellion Racing Lola B12/60-Toyota.

Whereas the Audis had the P1 class to themselves through the first half of the race, the battle for supremacy in the GT class was very much in doubt, with Olivier Beretta in the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F458 Italia holding a slim lead over Nick Tandy in the No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and John Edwards in the No. 56 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE.

Also still very much in contention for GT honors at halfway were the No. 91 SRT Motorsports SRT Viper GTS-R with Marc Goossens at the wheel and Richard Westbrook in the No. 4 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1.

Level 5 Motorsports ran 1-2 at halfway in the P2 class with Marino Franchitti leading the way in the No. 551 Level 5 Motorsports HPD ARX-03b-Honda ahead of team owner Scott Tucker in the No. 552 P2 prototype. The teammates were three laps ahead of Tom Kimber-Smith in the No. 41 Greaves Motorsport Zytek Z11SN-Nissan.

Kyle Marcelli led the Prototype Challenge (PC) presented by Continental Tire class in the No. 8 BAR1 Motorsports ORECA FLM09, with David Ostella second in the No 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports machine and David Heinemeier-Hansson in the No. 500 for Performance Tech Motorsports.

GT Challenge (GTC) halfway honors went to GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series regular Jon Fogarty in the No. 11 JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Second in GTC was Mario Farnbacher in the No. 31 machine from NGT Motorsport ahead of teammate Sean Edwards, who was third in the No. 30 entry.
